Which scope to buy for my .308 for deer stalking

    Hi Everyone,

    I'm looking to buy a new scope for deer stalking & hunting; I've done some research & have found the following scopes, any recommendations which one I should get? The scopes are;

    1) Leupold VX1 3-9x40
    2) Burris Fullfield E1 3-9x40
    3) MTC Optics Viper 4-16x44 IR
    4) MTC Optics Mamba 4-166x50 RIR

or any others that you can suggest, also do I need an illuminated reticule for shooting deer? The scope will go on a Browning .308 A Bolt.

    Thanks HSJ

    NON of the above !

Used 6x42 in Swarovski , Doctor, Zeiss or Schmidt and Bender for about 250 is miles better than your choices !

And no you don't need Illumination. If you cant see to shoot it how you going to find it ?

Of the ones quoted above, the Leupold and the Burris will be the better..
Burris have made some cracking optics, but at that budget your stretching it..
These two will perform the majority of tasks you are asking of them..
In duller conditions they will offer less of a clear sight picture than more expensive optics.
But both offer a decent warranty and are better than MTC.
ANd yes.. I speak from experience on all three brands.
THe other decent budget scopes to look for are Nikko Stirling Diamond. 3-12X56mm, Philapino Simmonds White tail classics.
But don't expect German Quality.. They will however perform reasonably for the money.
If you can afford better... try to..

    +1

Don't waste your money. 6x42 for lowland/woodland and 8x56 for Highland. I would add Carl Kahles to the list of possibles.

what conditions do you expect to hunt in (open, woods, brush, shot distance)? If you plan on brush and/or less than 100 meter shots, that 6x may not be your thing... I have a 6x42 on my 30.06 and don't like it real well so far.... Have a browning lever action with a 1.5-4x20 that fits me real nice.... If I was gonna buy a new scope now, it would be something like this.....

I believe optics planet ships internationally also
