    Dollag's Cottage - holiday rental

If you are looking for the perfect "get away from it all" holiday then Dollag's Cottage, located on a croft on the West Side of the Isle of Lewis will suit your requirements perfectly.

    http://www.7south.co.uk/index.html

The cottage sleeps 6 is one double and two twin rooms and is newly refurbished and very well equipped, one guest last season commented to Dollanna (who owns the cottage) that she is charging far too little for it and it certainly represents very good value.

Excellent fishing for brown trout, salmon and sea trout is available in the area with some within walking distance of the cottage. Most brown trout fishing is free of charge and there is also some good free salmon and sea trout fishing within a short distance. It is also possible to buy daily and weekly permits which give access to a huge range of salmon and sea trout fishing. Quite simply your problem at Dollag's Cottage isn't getting fishing but rather deciding where to fish next.

Excellent shooting and stalking is also available in the area and there is lots for the kids to do ranging from feeding pet lambs, sandy beaches and even a nearby indoor swimming pool. The BBC Katie Morag children's programme was shot on location in the area around the cottage.

Because the cottage is on a working croft pets are not allowed.

Even in winter there is lots to do and see in the area and with this in mind I thought to post some photos taken in the village over the New Year period, there are lots of summer images and information on things to do in the area for kids and adults if you click on the link above but hopefully you will enjoy these winter pictures:

I know it is a pain hogey, to be honest it would be great to have dogs and I personally would fill the house with them and end up sitting in the kennel myself :-) I also appreciate that, especially with stalkers and sporting shooters, their dogs are almost always better behaved than most people but it just isn't wise to take the risk, especially when the livestock on nearby crofts belongs to neighbours. You can imagine the potential community relations disaster.

As a quick bump and also to add some info:

The cottage is pretty much full for July and August 2014 but there is still availability in the Spring and early Summer (good for trout fishing) and also in the Autumn months which is the time most people coming for sport are interested in.

I thought to add some photos taken while stalking on Lewis, just to show some of the ground and give an idea of what is available on the island. The lochs in the photos are also well known for their salmon and sea trout. These photos were taken a few years back and I sort of found them again, on my computer, and so thought that the good citizens of SD might enjoy them.

A mixture of some stalking and fishing photos taken in the area, again I'm posting mostly because I found these slightly older pictures (some back to 2008) and thought some folks might enjoy them:

Some people say there are 1000 trout lochs, and I've seen some people say as many as 2000. The honest answer is that I've no idea, I've never tried counting and it probably doesn't matter as there are only a certain number you can fish in a lifetime! My record is 41 lochs in a fortnight and 35 of them were completely new to me. My record for a day is 11 and I think I had a fish from every one of them. The limiting factor is how far you can walk rather than the number of lochs.
