Is the .17 Hornet dead already?

I've been looking at previous posts for the .17 Hornet as I'm tempted to get one but all seems quiet,
    No posts good or bad.
I was thinking the Hornet might replace my 17 HMR and 17 Rem. No, I've not gone mad before all the ballistic experts say it. I don't shoot things at 400 yards and I've got a .223 and .22-250 for foxes.
It just seems like a good idea to me

If you own one you'll love the round but I'd not use it for foxing as a primary tool.
There are posts out there and I've found my Savage VERY accurate both with handloads and factory. It's very good on powder but the bullets are not that cheap (20 - 30 per hundred, just bought 600 25grain target ones for 115 posted)...

Pees all over the HMR (I know I had one and they are as skanky as you can get) but it's no 17 Remington as the case is tiny.

Range? Shot five bunnies (maybe six) in a row at 200-220yards with factory ammo once I'd noted it didn't drop much from the 100 yard zero...just rest the cross hairs on top of Peter Rabbit and pop. 400 yards? Yes, done on the the range and it's fine but 600 yards is a forget it since the bullets are subsonic beyond about 500.

Keep the .223 and .22-250 for foxes and the 17 HH will suffice on the rest...crows hate it as the bullet crack / muzzle signature with a suppressor is quite low compared to 22 centrefire and they are unsure where the threat is.

700 rounds per tub of powder ok?

The CZ looks much better. The Savage I have needed some tuning: 5 shots in 1/3" at 100 yards using Berger 20grain Varmint and Lil'Gun.

PM me if you want to know more.

I was interested in this gun when it first appeared.
But I dont think the Savage rifles are the best platform to launch a new cal and persuade shooters to spend.

I had chance to test the Savage / Synthetic and was totally put off that rifle - The stock felt like it was from a 1970's Daisey BB gun and the action was rougher than a badgers balls.
Hopefull the CZ rifle will mean a better rifle and will give a bit of life to the little 17 cal.

Nothing wrong with the platform after a bit of TLC...
