    Montana Rifle Company.

Does anyone have experience with the Montana 1999 actions or the Montana production rifles? Are they imported into the UK by anyone? Planning a custom build on a Winchester Model 70 (or similar) action.

I was considering buying a stainless 7mmWSM, but was put off by mishaps in the 'States. I also believe they are banned at some Ranges, due to a blow up. Try Googling it.

I think Foxfirearms sells Coopers of Montana rifles if that is any help

There was a well publicised blow up of a stainless Montana action on the ranges at Bisley a few years ago, i do believe they banned them.

If you are planning a build on a Win 70 action then go for just that, you want be dissappointed.
If you want to spend some serious money have a look at the Dakota actions.

One SS Montana actioned rifle did blow up back in 1999 in the US. I couldn't find any information on the outcome of this incident. It could have been for a number of reasons and it did happen 15 years ago. I was slightly put off by the fact that these actions are investment cast and can be a bit rough. I was thinking of buying a new Model 70 (only the Ultimate Shadow and Coyote Light come in .308 in Europe) and re-stocking, bedding etc. The Dakota actions are rather expensive.

Any idea who's bringing the Dakota actions into the UK now, Ian?
