    25-06 factory ammunition for roe.

I've been using Hornady 117gr BTSP ammunition since getting a 25-06 last year; I seem to have been getting a few runners than when using my 6.5x55, including a non-spooked roe which ran 30 yards after a shot straight into the engine room yesterday. The bullet didn't seem to do a great deal of damage on the way through; would a 100gr round be worth trying? I want to avoid excessive meat damage, although I know there will be a degree of compromise.

A friend of mine recently switched to Federal Premium 100gn Nosler BT ammunition for his .25-06 Sako 85...certainly stops the deer in their tracks. Not unusal for a deer to run when engine room shot though & 30yds isn't much. ATB

.25-06 ; runners, roe not a common combination no matter what the ammunition.

More usual to complain of excessive damage, try a lighter bullet and a poly tip. If runners still a problem try draw the bullet through both the heart and shoulder by shooting on a diagonal through the beast increasing the damage done.

Shot a Roe Doe yesterday morning with homeloaded 117gn Hornady Interlock BTSP in my 25-06. She ran 20 yards then fell down dead. Good exit wound with no excessive meat damage. Shot another Doe last weekend with same load, she ran 50 yards and dropped. Sometimes they run, not unhappy with the load.

I would give the 100 grain bullets ago, had a client use them a couple of years ago. They performed very well on Sika stags and Roe

I use sako 117 game heads, I think they are in fact sierra game kings. Never had a roe run at all. They work very well on reds as well. Fantastic cartridge.

+1. Don't know about never having a roe run. The odd one and if they do it's never far at all. Great all round cartridge
