    Muntjac or Roe

Some informed views would be appreciated

I am currently carrying out a Muntjac survey and I'm pretty sure I have found Roe slots - wanted some ideas from those somewhat more experienced than myself:

They are pretty small, and I wondered about the distance in stride on the second photograph being quite short.

    Thoughts?

they look like roe too me .doug. i had this problem last week i followed some slots out of the wood, shotgun doing bunnies and pigeons, some looked very small so i thought my lucks in munties ,as this is a wood i have never shot before i followed them for ten mins stopping to check when i came across them ,they where as suprised as me but i was camo ed head to foot so they didnt spook so i carried on stalking with my phone, good fun , but they were all roe does one a little bit smaller than the others? and i think i will go back this weekend a little earlier this time and see if theres any munties about. the area i am talking about is in yorkshire so dont know if munties have reached there yet.atb doug.

Cannot be sure as the mud was so soft but..... they seem like the right general size and outline for Chinese Water Deer or smallish Roe. Not Muntjac.
I wont be betting my shirt though.

Roe would be my guess. Just a little too broad and chunky for muntjac. Munty slots always appear 'dainty' to me.

Cheers folks, I had kinda suspected I was looking at Roe, and yes Crosshair243, the FSC guide sheet does say that Muntjac slots appear "dainty" compared to Roe which are more "solid" - thanks for the replies chaps - I'll keep looking for more Muntjac
