I have a 8x56 s&b with an A7 ret, ideal for what i do with it, the cross hair maybe a little to thick if i want to shoot smaller animals over longer distances

It's totally subjective AN DU RU, down to ones personal preference. Mil Dot has always been my preference as it enables far greater precision with holdover. If I couldn't have Mil Dot, my second preference would be TDS or similar like .25-06 above - same precision for holdover with added benefit of assistance with windage.

Doug it depends what you want to do. For S&B and stalking I like the A7 - Reticles Hunting

For Zeiss and stalking I like 4 - Accuflite Optics EStore - Zeiss Reticle Information

    But Swarovski 4A is better - http://www.sportoptics.com/SpecSheet...eSelection.pdf

As in all things, you really need to ignore the commentary and actually try one out. I used Swarovski 4A in 2 scopes for about 10 years. It did all I wanted to do stalking deer.

    Regards
