Salt Licks

I just buy normal saltlicks at Countrywide and tie them 4' up a dead tree. The deer lick and scrape at the tree base.

Works well :D

I use old tractor tyres cut in half around the circumference and just fill them with rock salt from the builders merchants. Deer like them as do the pheasants, it uses up scrap tyres which I would otherwise have to take down the LA tip and they are heavy enough to stay where you put them.

I purchased four two kilo 'Red Rockies' today from the farm shop. They are clearly labelled 'for cattle, horses, deer and goats'. And they also have a clearly printed label 'DO NOT FEED TO SHEEP!'
At £2.37 each they seem very reasonable. I've attached them to tree stumps rather than live trees. I wouldn't want the land owner moaning should the salt effect the trees health or the surrounding flora, (its a sensitive area). During the Autumn months I will take the wind fall apples and pears from the garden and scatter those, the Munties love 'em!
