Anybody using this in their 308 with 150grn bullets? Im using varget at the moment and getting good results. Currently Im about to go onto a new tub which Im sitiing on. So I either continue with the varget or sell my varget and change now.

yes feller tried it in the sako .308 with pro hunters it was ok and should be better if given the time to develop it, but as i have still got a few tubs of my old faithful h4895 i did't go it to it that much , but why not try v140 its nr the varget burn rate also Paul at Fechan is using the TR140 powder and i'v just requested info on just this bullet from him may be worth a pm to him
sorry not been much help feller.

No worries tr140 is also on the radar.

Yes, I have used RL15 in my .308 for years and find it does the job well. I COL all my loads to 2.75 inches and load with 42 grains of powder for my Krico and 44 grains for the new Howa, which is producing touching holes at 100 yards.

I can usually get RL15 and so standardized on it as the only powder I use in my 308.
It seems to do the job just fine. I have a Blaser R93 and with 150 Hornady Spire Points see 3000fps from a book max load, my normal deer load with Partitions is only going 2700fps and to be honest either do a good job on deer.
If you saw my "random loads in one group" experiment then all these loads were made up with RL15, as it is the only powder I have. When you consider that the group of 20 rounds contains 7 different bullets, including one that I don't know what it is, in weights from 110 to 165 grains with many loaded at totally random lengths and some shot of sticks then the one thing you can't blame is the powder:

The fun continues, and the group grows

It would be interesting to do the same experiment with 7 different powders in a range of loads. My bet is it would make sod all difference to the group but the only way to find out would be to try it.

RL-15 is pretty much interchangeable with Varget and H4895 in the 150, 155, 165, 168 gr bullets in a .308 Winchester.

That said, RL-15 will generally give me better accuracy than Varget, or is easier to dial in.
It is a little denser, so you can get more in the case, up to 47.0 grains with a 150-gr bullet, but you will probably see accuracy fall off as your approach that.

Varget is less temperature sensitive than RL-15, a consideration in match shooting and climates. The US military teams and snipers use RL-15 under the 168-gr Sierra and 175-gr.

46.3 grain RL-15, Federal brass, 210M primer and a 150 ballistic tip at 2.80 inch COAL duplicates the Federal Premium ammo, 2770 fps from a 24-inch barrel.

edited post to show my load work up, amazing what a few extra grains can do. top left is 168g ppu factory ammo the rest is 175g sierra. 37.5g, 39g, 41 and finally 41.3g,

Use a chronograph to be safe, but you should be able to go to 43.0 gr RL-15 in Lapua brass with a match primer.
RL-15 works better near the top end pressure, because that makes it burn more uniformly, smaller deviation in FPS.

Wipe the barrel out with a dry patch. If it is coming up smokey at 41.3 grains, that means needs a little more pressure to burn better, so bump up the load by 0.2 grains until the barrel is cleaner after. That should be a sweet spot.

PS: Same load work up with VV N-150 and the 165, 168, 173, 175 should get about the same results in the same rifle and brass.
