Thread: SAKO 75 III magazines?

    SAKO 75 III magazines?

A quick and rather anorakish enquiry:

I have a 75 in .22-250, and the mag is stamped 'B ' on the back.

I'm thinking that this rifle might turn into a .308 when the .22-250 barrel has come to the end of its useful life, and I'm wondering which letter is stamped on the back of .308/7mm-08/.243 SAKO 75 III mags.

Could anyone oblige, when they next have their cabinet open?

    Thanks!

I have a Sako 75 III Finnlight in .308 and I can't see any letter stamped on the magazine. Aren't the .22-250 and .308 etc mags the same thing? See links:

The 22/250 mag is slightly different from the 243/308 mag.

    Hi
You've said this on another thread, but not said in what way
    Sako 75 6.5x55mm-Z6i 3-18x50. MauserM12 .308-SIII 6-24x50. Beretta 690 III Field 12b.

    +1

Have just bought a sako 75 22-250 to have it rebarrelled into 308 and would also like to know the difference in mags. 308 rounds fit in the mag fine and seem to feed but won't know for sure until the 308 barrel is on it. I imagine the lips on the top of the mag will be shorter on the 308 one, but dunno if this will mean a 308 round won't feed from a 22-250 mag?
Can anyone post a pic of a 308 mag to compare? Here's my 22-250 one:

I'm please to note that Otisthedog's .22-250 is stamped 'B' just like mine.

Beretta USA lists three different kinds of SAKO 75 III mags: one for PPC cals, one for .308/.243/7mm-08 and one for .22-250.
I suppose the differences must lie in the length and/or angle of the lips?

    Thanks for that, W-B!

It might be clearer from square-on front, rear, side and top views, but to me it looks as though the .308 lips stick up more than the .22-250 ones.

    Yes, thanks Webley Boy,

Looks like the fronts of the lips feature a longer/finer taper than the 22-250 one. Apart from that it's a fairly tough game of spot the difference, without having both together to look at.
