    270 Home loaded

    Evening all,
I was curious what recipes were used for the 150g's & if anyone had run a 160g through this calibre? Or if there are any comments on the abilities of the Sako L61 Action's ability to take a top weight load.

    Thanks & atb

    Have tried 90, 100, 110, 130, 135, 140, 150, 160 and even sourced some 180gr

always came back to the 130gr over 55gr N160
sold all my spare bullets other than 130's (and some 135 smks for target)

I love 130gr but driven i just like a little extra weight and slightly slower seems to work well. for uk hunting I stick with 130gr

Another vote for 130 grainers, probably the best all round bullet for the 270, my fave being 130gr Sierra pro hunter. My loads are slightly heavier as mine is a WSM, so 67gr of H4831pushes them along a bit.

Thanks guy's for the info so far, the expected wealth of knowledge much appreciated, I still use a 243 with 100g's for UK deer so similar SD of .242 to the 130's in 270, figured I would play with heavy n slow as a bit bored...
its going to get used on a number of driven hunts in France & Italy this coming season so , I was looking really to get the SD up to .280+ getting in the 7mm .30 cal range hence my question.
Please feel free to correct me or offer further advise..cheers

4350 is super for 130 and 140 grain, as are both flavors of 4831 and N160 for the 140s.

I have an an L61R in .375 H&H. L61R is a strong action, but start low and work up for accuracy. Even way back off of maximum is still a fast load.

My .270s shoot 150-gr loads very well. Try the Remington 150s, RN and Spire Point. If they shoot well, that is where to set your dies to start.

    53.0 gr IMR-4350 Hornady flat base 150-gr 2,900 fps start at 50.0
55.0 gr IMR-4831 or 56.0 grains H-4831 Sierra GK start at 52.0 Very tough bullet, thick jacket.
    56.0 gr RL-22 start at 54.0
