I had a savage 17 Hornet, Thought it was just ok. I used mine for foxing mostly and had two runners so swapped it for the mighty 204 ruger.

Split the dif and get a .222?

    A 17HMR is very dif to a .223 and indeed a .17 Hornet centrefire.

If you are happy to reload and purchase a custom built rifle a .22PPC or BR would be nice.

When you say long range crow etc, what range are you talking about mate?

.204 would be better idear, BC of bullets much better, good choice of bullets just have to decide what twist you would need.

My money would be on the .223 as well, a much more versatile cartridge.
