    Natural history - bogs

As some might be aware I spend a lot of my time up to my knees in bogs and my girlfriend runs a self catering cottage and so often has visitors, many with kids, who are interested in a simple natural history of the peatlands. In light of this she now has a little page on her website with info relating to the natural history of bogs. It is fairly simple and not intended to be complete or to appeal to a specialist audience but it might be of interest to some on this forum who, like me, perhaps spend a lot of time on similar ground:

bogs and moorland on the Isle of Lewis

As ever thoughts, suggestions and corrections are welcome. It may stop there or it may be a work in progress with more photos to be added but at the minute it might be best to keep it relatively short in view of the target audience which is, basically, people with kids getting questions about bogs.

I don't how it looks in other browser windows but in mine (Firefox) some of the text is obscured by the pictures. Despite that, it's an a interesting read. Undoubtedly your GF will soon receive a visit from the 'Climate Change' Gestapo for publicising the fact that our climate used to be significantly warmer than it is now and far from destroying humanity, actually helped it to prosper.

That is interesting that you had problems with your browser as some aspects of the site were showing the same problem in Google Chrome, only on some PCs, for a little while but the problem just went away. As I was only ever able to recreate the problem on one PC with one browser I didn't get too worked up. I suspected that they had changed something in the browser in some strange way as it never did it with IE but clearly there is something else going on. I will look into it.

The only remarkable thing about climate change would be if it were to stop changing. I must try to post some photos of a peat bank I know which has many feet of mineral soil at the bottom, about 30cm of peat and then about 30cm of mineral soil on top with vegetation growing on it. The alarmists will probably argue that the peat was painted onto the mineral soil by a secret government agent working on behalf of "Big Oil" :-)
