    Dont rush into it....

Do your DSC1, go away, shoot some deer, be comfortable working with deer and THEN start the DSC2.

Take your time when stalking , dont rush into it and observe every bit of land clearly , you will find more deer and it will work in your favour.....hope this helps scott

Gain experience in Gralloching and health checking, know all lymph nodes names and where to find them.

Don't be in a hurry to gain certificates its only a bit of paper.

Get Chris Howards DVD and study how he does the gralloch. Take from it what you want, ultimately you will find what works for you. Get lots of practice and build up your confidence.

Understand the likely cost implications before you start.
Many candidates require a lot of stalks to achieve the three ICR's - it adds up.

Try and get out with an AW or experienced holder of DSC 2 first and do a 'Mock' one to make sure you are up to standard. An awful lot of people think they are ready long before they actually are which results in many first DSC 2 stalks turning into 'training stalks'!

My one piece of advice, do not leave your portfolio with a witness! Easier said than done as an evening stalk would put you late in August to start writing things. DO IT THE NEXT DAY! Once yo leave it it can get forgotten or put to one side and all the while it makes it difficult for you to get another stalk in, and even worse your first stalk ends up being the last one to be written up properly as it keeps getting put to one side. Get the witness to do it while it is still fresh and sit with them.

You may not be in a rush, but stay in control of your portfolio.

Factor the write up in to a trip wherever you can.
