Pregnant uterus with scissors pointing to right ovary

Uterus opened showing maternal caruncles

Chorioallantoic membrane with fluid showing cotyledons which connect to maternal caruncles

Amniotic sack containing foetus

Foetus exposed showing umbilicus

Trying to sex the foetus ? male I did examine it under 10 power

? antlerogenic tissue on frontal bones

It has been my observation that muntjac pregnancy is always in the right uterine horn even though the corpus luteum can sometimes be in the left ovary. Would anyone like to comment on their findings ?

Fantastic photos, how many weeks old would you guess the foetus is?
I'm amazed you managed to sex it.

I'd say just short of 2 months, but interested in what Morena says.

We can sex cattle foetuses at this stage of pregnancy using ultrasound with decent accuracy. With the position of the genital tubercle I'd have gone for female, but this is the first muntjac foetus I have ever seen, so offering zero experience in this particular area!

Great info, the last 2 muntjac doe's I've shot have both been pregnant with fairly well developed feotus's. I don't mind taking pics and posting if there's interest but they may not be as good at these and I certainly won't be using any big words!! :D

That's if I get any more obviously but the amount we have around here it's only a matter of time,

Stratts
