What's your thought after a new 17hmr, I have been refusing to go down this route for rabbit shooting. Finally going to get one 16" or 20" barrel? the CZ seems a good rifle in .22rf.

Hi mate,

CZ rimfire rifles are great out of the box for accuracy and value for money, you won't get a more accurate factory rimfire rifle.

id get a 16 inch barrel one, the extra 4 inch with the 20 will only gain you approx 50-100 ftps max from my experiences and not worth worrying about and will offer you no advantage in the field.

16 or 20 inch barrel will both work fine, down to choose really mate.

let us know what you decide mate?

I have a Savage BVSS Savage Arms which I am selling, it has a 4-12 illuminated Leupold VXR on it with the ballistic firedog ret, Leupold VX-R 4-12x50 Rifle Scope | Uttings.co.uk nice rifle, shoots half inch at 100 yds with the hornaday ammo. I have hardly used it since I got the .20 Vartarg. I have a mate who has first dibs on it, but if he doesn't want it you could have the whole package including mod for £750 which is a bargain. The scope is great BTW....

definitely go for the 16 inch barrel. I bought mine new with a 20 inch and with a mod on too it's the best part of 26 inches long. I was forever hitting it on low branches or it was brushing through the grass while carrying it and as for using it to shoot from a truck, what a pain. Mine is currently getting chopped to 16 and as mentioned above (and the article in one of the shooting mags) you'll lose about 50fps which is nothing really.

I crono'd my own 16inch CZ HMR against my pals rifle with the 20 inch barrle fitted.

There was about 30 - 50 fps difference. Actually there was more difference between the shot to shot consistancy of bullets in each rifle due the quality of the ammo , than there was due to length of tube.

Go 16 inch IME

the difference between mine and my mates 16 -20 inch was 40-70 ftps, like you said Alan there was a lot more difference between shot to shot consistency due to ammo quality then the barrel length, dead right there.

my CZ .22Lr I went 16 inch.

Deffinately shorter barrel, especially in and out of truck etc...

it have a CZ and my mate has a anschutz, the CZ is spot on accuracy and a nice feel too it. However the anschutz is streets ahead, like comparing an escort to a BMW, the trigger, bolt and general feel is streets ahead. Only problem is they are nearly twice the price. Does it shoot better, only just but my CZ groups at an inch.

yes the Anschutz is better quality and probably has a slicker feel, like you said it's twice the price, so it wants to be. All the CZ needs is a £15 trigger kit to transform the trigger, I'd argue that the Anschutz wouldn't shoot any better, just because it's slicker or dearer though, CZ's are very accurate guns.

i have both annie 14 inch 22lr and 16 inch cz 17hmr,i love them both, get the 16 inch cz 452 17hmr you will love it,

I have a CZ 452 American with a 20'' barrel and is as accurate as I would ever be with anything. Go for it.

Also keep in mind that these rifles come from the factory at 20'' and Edgar Brothers cut them to 16''. I would have a rifle as it comes from factory any day, over one that is modified, no matter how well it is done.

I have recently got a cz 452 silhouette black synthetic stock and 20 inch barrel in 17hmr, i didnt want to go down this road as i had always had the same rifle but in 22rf but i can honestly say it takes rabbit shooting at night to a new level, its brilliant out to around 120 yards and i use less ammo as there is less worry about hold over ect. I dropped a fox last week with it no problem. Im using 17 grn hornady ammo with no problems as yet.

I know Edgar Brothers shortened a lot but the crown and threading on my 16"" varmint is blued indicating that it was done at the factory. One of the reasons I bought it.
