    classic rifle in 6.5 x 55

    Hi folks,

A Canadian friend has recently moved to Fife, and is starting to look for a rifle.

He's a bit of an old school purist, and likes classic hunting rifles and lever actions.

His ideal set up is a 6.5 x 55, 24' barrel, wood stock. Definitely not screw cut.

Could anyone suggest where would be the best place to look? Would be very grateful for suggestions.

Should add that he has a weakness for the odd ball and off the wall, little known and eccentric.

I would be looking for an older Husqvarna, from Model 648, etc, right up through the 1960s "Tradewind"... nice walnut, slick action, really good barrels with iron sights, workmanship.

    How about something like this?

An FFV Husqvarna from 1968 or thereabouts? I know who bought this one and they might be open to offer.

Nice rifle , and probably one of the slickest bolts I've ever felt . I'd buy it .

Phone Garlands and order a brand new Heym SR21 with the barrel length and no screw cut you can even order the open sights if so desired. Old school style, quality and reliability, every thing your friend needs.
    Hope that helps
The ORDNANCE QF 18 pounder Field Gun......I wonder if they will let me have one of these on an open ticket

    How about a half decent second-hand S90L?

As the happy owner of an SR21 with 24' barrel, this was the first thing I suggested. Sadly, I think it's beyond his budget. My guess is he has a hard ceiling of about 1200.

Klench - forgive my ignorance, but what is a S90L?
