Professional Hunter Apprenticeship - South Africa

    Hi

Just wondering if someone could let me know whether it would be possible to secure an apprenticeship as a PH in South Africa without citizenship?

    Any advice much appreciated.

    Thanks

You are allowed to take the PH course which is 5 days but not allowed to take the exam or act as a PH legally.

RSA does not operate an apprenticeship scheme as both Zambia and Zim do. Many of the hunting academies in RSA can put you through a 10-12 day practical and theory course with both written and practical exams at the end.

You do not have to be a South African citizen to attend the course or sit the exams. However depending on the province the parks board will tell you that you either need to be a citizen or a resident to work as a PH...... If you're keen on pursuing this, Zim and Zambia would be the places to start as they both operate proper apprenticeship schemes. Its not for the faint hearted though.

1 week or even 12 days, that's not quite enough to qualify as a PH, especially if starting from scratch (by this I mean without prior African bush and dangerous game hunting experience)...

Zambia and Zim have the best apprenticeship practices, you can check the Zimbabwe Professional Hunters association's site for contact info, Zimbabwe Professional Hunters and Guides Association - " ETHICS ARE EVRYTHING "

Interesting example of "muzzle awareness" being shown on their home page

What rules of safe gun handling do they teach on this apprenticeship ?
