Thanks mate. That's really useful. The originals are too expensive to buy.

Its so easy to do feller and much better than paying out year on year , iv been doing this for years . carp fisherman use a scent pad cheaper but not as good as the real mccoy.

Tried this today and found that the butane nozzle didn't fit right so couldn't fill it up. However, I took the gold adapter off and just filled directly into bottle and was quick to get the gold adapter back on which can get it up to 2/3 full so still doable.

Out of interest, which butane canister did you buy to get the right fit?

I heard a few lads saying the scent from a hob ferret smeared on the pads keeps the midges at bay.
    Might be worth a try. . .

    just any old butane can
I chopped the tip off and wrapped some tape around half way up to provide a seal
if you let the can warm up and increase pressure (or use to alternating) and you will find you can get them fully full

Thanks for posting the info bewsher. I was tempted to go for a Thermacell but the cost of consumables was putting me off. Now it's a reasonable proposition so I just ordered one off Eblag for 20 delivered, (40% off Bushwear price).
