Sauer 202, .308 factory steers please

    Chaps

Mate of mine is chasing down a Sauer 202 in .308. Will be test firing the rifle, and asked me what ammo to use. I wanted to say 'any', so long as it's .308, but that would be shirking my mate duties and know the answer will lie here.

I have the 202 in that AMAZING calibre 6.5x55 ( )that everyone wanted to have..and use Federal 140gr Powershok, which is superb but may not perform the same in .308.

So, for Sauer 202 .308 users, recommendations please for factory ammunition in SP.

    Many thanks in advance.

    R

PS I have searched the forums and there is great load data for reloading, but he won't be doing much of that.

150gn Sako Hammerheads work very well in my Sauer 202 outback 308w so accurate you could not improve by reloading

Geoff - thank you, that's very helpful.
    Many thanks.
How's the Outback? I was looking for a .30-06 barrel for my 6.5x55, but am increasingly tempted to look at the Outback and get a new rifle instead.

I think the Sauer action and harmonics are superb, I really do. A finer, more accurate rifle I have not shot, less the L96 but not quite the same demand.

Any others out there ammunition wise?

Hi i am very please with the outback, its a later one with built in rail so no chance of thread stripping when mounting scopes, it is much lighter than the standard 202 classic, which i have in .270w. I use it with an atec maxim moderator. I cannot fault the rifle, Cheers Geoff

Try it out with the ammo he will use for hunting, what he has used before, and works on game, and try the cheap stuff which is readily available, too. Try some 150-gr, and a 165, like a Core Lokt or Hornady, or Federal Fusion.

But I would be surprised if it does not digest any load put into it. I have a Sauer 200 in .308, a Sigarm SHR 970 ( built by Sauer), and a Steyr SBS PH in .308. So far, they shoot all ammo into small groups.

I have two Sauers and they don't like Sako,RWS,ppu but do like Federal PS and Win. Not tried Norma or Rem yet. I stick with Federal.

+1 for the Sako Hammerheads. They shoot like a dream in my 202 Elegance. Not as good as home loads but my first choice when I'm feeling lazy.
