    new scope...

well im looking for a new scope for my 204 ruger. I have a leupold 6.5-20x40 sat on the top of it at the moment but struggle getting enough light while out lamping, so im after a new scope... im looking at a Viper HS 4-16x50 BDC Reticle (MOA). and I was wondering if any one has one or uses one? if so what do you think of them? is it worth getting or no?

    cheers charlie

I have had most brands over the years
nearly all of them have been 40-50mm Obj rather than massive 56mm ones

    I had the same Leupold V3 6.5-20x40, 3-9x40, 3-9x50, 4-12x40 had a viper 4-14x40, 10x40, S&B 4-12x42, Meopta 7x50, 6x42, Nikko 6x44, 7x50, 8x50, zeiss 4.5-12x40

they all do the job but there is no accounting for quality of glass when it comes to low light transmission
The Meopta 6x42 is the brightest of the lot

that said under a lamp you shouldn't be having light transmission issues

I have a 3-9x50 hawke on my 22lr, a 6x42 pecar on my 222, and a 2.5-10x56 hawke on my 6.5x55 and they are all fine in the lamp. but even at 8x or 10x I cant seem to get enough light in to clearly see the fox. ive had to let 4 go now just for the fact I cant see it clear enough to take the shot, and it is doing my head in now. but what really done my head in was when I tried a nv add-on and it was even worse, all I could see was a eye shine, and it was no further than 80 yards.

ive I had the spare it would be a swaro or s&b. but don't have enough spare cash..... so what are you thorts on the viper?

The 6.5-20x50 conquests I have I often use at 20 mag under the lamp. No Problem. Some cheaper scopes just don't work at higher mag when light is low. Get good glass.

I've one of the Vipers you allude to. I'm really impressed with it. It started out on my 22FAC air rifle and moved its way up as I became more confident in its abilities. I'd have no hesitation in putting it on my foxing rig, but have a better scope atop already. Excellent value for money and as has already been said solid warranty.

i have to agree with the man above, leopolds to me are the worst for eye relief, i just find them pants, and under the lamp i have found nothing better for my budget as a zeiss conquest 4.5/14x44 or the 50 just the dogs kahoonas.
