Thread: Deer legal load question?

    Deer legal load question?

Hi folks just wondered if anyone could shed any light on this?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the deer legal load in England for Red deer to be 1700ftlbs, and obviously bullet diameter larger than .240", just say for arguments sake you can get a 70g-80g bullet to travel fast enough, and meets the 1700ftlb requirement out of the muzzle, but it may be less than 1700ftlb at 100 yards, is the round still deer legal? Basically is the 1700ftlb measured from the muzzle or downrange energy?

This is purely theoretical question I'm not looking to go shooting Reds with 70g bullets before someone jumps on this with the whole ethics of it all, just curious

    Any input (constructive) welcome

England and Wales for ALL deer minimum 1700ft/lb muzzle energy firing a bullet NOT LESS than .240 diameter, soft or hollow point (designed to expand in a predictable manor)

If your 80gr bullets meet the above criteria then legally yes.

    have you done DSC1?

No I have not sorry! just curious as Wasn't sure if it was measured from muzzle or when at the point it makes contact. Thanks for your input.

270wsm. ft/lb is not a unit of energy. Regards JCS

Because It is covered in DSC1, plus If he wanted to do his DSC1 I could offer a place on my next course. My comment was meant as an enquiry not as a criticism.

The decision whether to do or not do a DSC1 is totally personal.
