Thread: My first Red Stag and deer.

  1. #1

My first Red Stag and deer.

My first red stag, 6 pointer. 3 hours and 5kms in hill trek and got this one. My first ever deer stalk. Thanks to John at Moray Outfitting. Quite chuffed as you can see from photo, been bloodied as per tradition.

Group of 5 stags.perfect side exposure with hill as backstop.approx 130m. And yes final 10m before shot crouching. One shot, heart hit, stag fell off within 10m. Took one hour to retrieve carcass in argocat.

Well done on the stag, i bet it was a tough walk and extraction. John was telling me today. I am up there tomorrow and hope there is one about with my name on it. I like that clear area near the boundary, and often see deer there.

Bot wow it is hard on the legs!

Thanks Dave. John is great stalker. Plenty wallows we saw. Some hinds and roes.all the best with your stalk.

That 'hat' looks quite subdued against the heather!

Congrats Mauser. I been at the Roe for many years but am after my first Red in the Highlands in a couple of weeks. Much looking forward to the experience. I hope I get to start a similar thread...!
(...and I have a Scout as well but won't be taking it...good to see one in action though)
