Heard my first roar this morning in Devon

A little drop in temperature and rain overnight appears to have started things off, he was about a mile away on another permission but he roared for 5 minutes at dawn then went quiet.
I spied another stag with his hinds on my permission, observed him for 20 mins but he was more interested in eating then rutting.
    Cheers
    Richard

Interesting. I was there today and was watching 3 of the real big lads laid up together without a hind in sight. A few half hearted roars from one of them, but he was literally asleep inbetween!

What I did find terrifying, while watching the deer from a respectful distance, was the group complete with a couple of kids in buggies, that walked within 5 yards of them. Blissfully aware or pig ignorant. I know which I was thinking!
