Fully Custom 7mm-08 by Valkyrie Rifles - New!

For sale is an un-used (never left the shop) fully custom 7mm-08 Rifle by Dave Wylde at Valkyrie Rifles. Whilst the heavy barrel has been reprofiled with stalking in mind, it is still too heavy for the person who ordered it so they have decided to try and sell it rather than sign it onto their licence. It weights a smidge under 5kg (un-scoped), and is beautifully balanced but not for those who like a lightweight gun. We would suggest this is a good option for anyone involved in park culling, or static shooting, or who just like a heavier rifle!

Its a Thor action with fluted bolt and zero Cant one piece rail. Tactical bolt knob.

The barrel started life as a 32 inch heavy varmint Bartlien. Its now reprofiled, fluted and 18" long. Screwcut 14mm x 1 and invisible capped.

    Trigger is a jewel.

The stock is a Manners T5 and has been modified in the bolt slot and ejection port area to better fit the action. Then pillar and devcon bedded.

Paintwork on the action is cerakote OD green and graphite black.

Paintwork on the stock is Duracoat tactical flat black, woodland tan, snow grey and OD green. Its far harder wearing than C series cerakote on a stock. The manners stocks are also painted in Duracoat from the factory.

A very short, pointable rifle that balances beautifully.

Rifle cost 4155 to put together, but this is a custom-spec rifle so expectations are realistic... sensible offers welcome but please bear in mind that this rifle is completely new and does not come with the usual 6-12 month wait for a custom rifle.

How do fella, not wishing to p*ss on your bonfire, but i think the site rules dictate you need to put a price on it..

I was interested to read about the reprofiling.. Can similar levels of finish be achieved on a re-profiled barrel? Is it an expensive task to have done?

Apologies if that wasn't clear - cost is 4155 as a new and un-used rifle, but open to sensible offers (bearing in mind the nature of custom rifles). We have advised that achieving actual cost is probably unrealistic, but as an un-used rifle it is worth advertising it at around the 4k mark and being open to offers. The in-shop price will be 3,950.
A good rifle smith ought to be able to re-profile and flute a barrel with no ill effect on the rifle, but it is a specialist task normally only attempted by those with training in such things. I'm not sure of anyone else who offers re-profiling, but wouldn't be surprised if PRS or Steve Kershaw also offer it.
Dave Wyldes work is impressive and the rifle is a pleasure to look at, he also fluted the barrel and has made a very nice job.

Why is the cost 3950 in the shop but over 4k on here?

FYI for any home-loaders out there, the loading software we use suggested the following:

    Hornady 139gn SST
    N140 - 43gns Max Load
    COAL @ 2.800
    - 59241 PSI
    - 100% Burn
    - Efficiency 31.30%
    - 2666 FPS

Reloader 15, H335, H414, and H4895 all got good decent results as well.

Short Barreled 7-08's seem to be an oddball but there are a number of articles on US forums about this caliber contradicting thoughts on short barrels - i.e. Performance has been far more efficient than predicted.

Thanks all for looking and for your comments so far.

Is there any negotiation in the asking price? I understand it's a custom rifle without the 6 month waiting time but someone else's custom rifle all the same.

Probably Steve, but the customer paid 4155, waited 6 months, and hasn't even shot it - he paid a deposit of 1500 and paid the remaining 2655 in order to receive the rifle.
Our advice was that if the majority of the value couldn't be recouped then he may as well just shoot it for a year or two then sell it for 50% of its cost (as seems to be the norm with customs). If he is going to lose 1k+ he'd be better to spend 600 having a lighter barrel put on it.
This will be the right rifle for someone, and is a bargain custom spec. without the wait.

    Thanks for looking,

One bit of your ad rather confuses me. Can you clarify what a 'zero Cant ' rail is? Does the rail have a built in level bubble?
