    Metal type for action bolts

Anyone know whether there is a preferable type of metal for action bolts? Will normal stainless steel do the trick?

As in fixing of the stock rather than the turn bolt that forms part of the action!

1144 fatigue proof steel is excellent IMHO

For what it is worth I replaced all my stock and action screws with A4 grade stainless steel countersunk or hex head when re-bedding and modifying the floor plate arrangements on my Anschutz 1432 Hornet.

You may be able to guess where I sourced them from!

A1 stainless is good enough to hold most of the country's industry together, A4 Is usually for marine applications ie. Salt water

Only the best for a Hornet!

As you suggest I'm sure A1 would be just fine.

these are not bolts that are under either a huge amount or torque or a huge amount of stress comparatively speaking

any decent steel bolts will do the job
even stainless is a bonus rather than requirement

I prefer normal high chrome steel to stainless - much less likely to get galling problems which can arise with stainless if care isn't taken. Top quality high tensile cap screws with rolled threads work well.
