    Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40

Hi All, I was thinking about changing my .270 and .22 scopes for something different, I was looking at a Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40 Scopes and wondered if they would withstand the recoil on the .270 and if they are any good. Or the other option is put up with the rimfire scope and get a second hand s&b for the .270. any info on this will be much appreciated Matt

We stock Vortex but although the warranty is unbeatable, I would look at a Viper rather than a Diamond back. If your interested have a look at our website.

    Shadrach -
One thing I have learned is that UK shooters here use their .22s a lot differently than hunters in the US.
There are US shooters who just like to punch holes on paper and put giant scopes like the Mueller APV 4.5-14x42 on Ruger 10/22s - and by all accounts it does a really good job on rimfires and small centerfires.

I am very happily using a 4x32 Hawke HD Mildot on a nice .22, and shooting easily to 125 yards.

If you are shooting at short and long range, you may find that you need parallax adjustment.
I use a 4-12x40AO target scope with fine crosshair to test .22s and ammo, but it is too outsized for me in the field. I am trying a 2-7x32AO Hawke now on another .22. It is not as sleek as the 4x32 and the crosshair is not as fine, but that has its uses in hunting, too.

If you shoot things like pigeons and crows at long range, or even squirrels and rabbits, I would suggest a scope with mil dots or BDC, like the Burris line, or Vortex. The Crosshair is more than enough for .22s.

A really nice scope for a .22 is the compact Burriss Timberline 4.5-14x32AO.
Another is the Leupold 3-9x33 EFR, which is good for centerfires, too. Looks great on a glossy .22 like an Anschutz, Sako or Browning.

Hi Southern, thanks for the reply
I was looking at Vortex Diamondback 2-7x35 for my .22, which I use for rabbiting and other pests upto 100yards. and the 3-9x40 for my .270 which I use for stalking and foxing? I just wondered if it will withstand the recoil of the .270 and what the glass is like on the scopes? or I was thinking or sticking with my mtc on the .22 and buying a second hand s&b or like scope?

I looked hard at a Vortex Diamondback 2-7x35 with the BDC reticle, but I have two Burris 2-7x35 with Ballistic Plex and love them, so I bought the Burris 2-7x35 E1 for my Tikka T3 7mm-08. I think the Diamondback, Burris Fullfield II 2-7x35, or even the Vortex Crossfire 2-7x35 with BDC would be super on a .22. One of my Burris 2-7x35s may end up on my Browning A-Bolt .22. These are really overlooked scopes with a very useful range of power, and enough light gathering for dusk and dawn. I know someone using a that Diamondback on his Ruger .375, so it must be sturdy.
