POI Question (With - without Muzzle brake)

    Hi All,

I zeroed my rifle with a muzzle brake.

My question is if I fired the rifle without the muzzle brake would be Point of impact change?

    Thanks

    Regards,
    Glendine.

Why not try it and find out?

The obvious answer is always the best! but this site contains a lot of knowledgeable people who may have
    previous experience.

    undoubtedly yes

    I zeroed my 300wm bang on a 100yds with a brake
when at the range I had to remove it and the 500yd adjustment was over just under 1 and 1/4 MOA (1.25" at 100yds...6 1/4" at 500yds!)

you barrel harmonics will change and most likely throw the POI out

    only you can find out

POI and load performance may both change. Only you can determine whether or not the changes are significant.

Just as I suspected you cant mess with harmonics.

Many thanks for your reply Bewsher500.

Yes is answer. Having spent a day custom manufacturing one from aero alloy for my 243 then tried it and loved the non existent recoil but realising I had made a monster out of a nice rifle I removed it and yes POI was way different. James

LOL, yes it will change but often group sizes dimish without a brake. Mostly due to the reduced percieved recoil, the high muzzle blast tends to increase the perception of recoil. Unless your are shooting a 50 BMG a brake may be inadvisable.

no brake = more felt recoil surely?
