a book to avoid: British Deer Stalking Bible, Peter Carr

I bought the kindle version of this book, so at least it didn't cost me upwards of 20 quid. Nevertheless I'm beyond unimpressed.

Here is the review I left on amazon:

This book is really very disappointing, too full of plugs for sponsors, too much scratching of mates backs and terribly lazy editing. Much of this book appears to be copied and pasted from other sources and this leads to repetition, often in the space of a couple of paragraphs, and some contradiction. A cynical attempt to milk money from deer stalking's rising popularity. I will not be reading another book from Peter Carr.

Thanks for the review. It wasn't on my C'mas list...

Anyone looking for a good all-round book on deer stalking would arguably be well served by one from Graham Downing, Dominic Griffith, Richard Prior or Lewis Potter among others; or one of a host of other specialist titles.

I agree wholeheartedly. In preparation for my visit to the highlands I also bought the Kindle version. Disappointed to say the least. Reads like a Hollywood script writer with all the name dropping.

30 minutes of drinking with SikaMalc provides more useful information, even after you cut out the "bawdy bits".

    Haha.

I was GIVEN this book and I still feel ripped off.

Cant imagine how annoyed I'd be if I'd paid for it.

No-one wants my signed copy from CLA then? Based on these reviews, I'm glad I've not opened it yet

If anyone is looking for a study book on Deer, just buy Kenneth's encyclopaedia of deer. It will last you a lifetime and you will always be able to learn something from it.
