I have been very fortunate to have been taken out stalking by some friends who are SD members, and it was a pleasure to be able to have two of them out with me last weekend for a day's pheasant shooting in the south lake district on the shoot I'm a gun on.
Moose travelled south from Scotland, and 243varmint headed north from Herefordshire.
The weather was very kind to us, however the morning was rather quiet (not helped by our syndicate having had some rather successful days earlier on in the season) - I was feeling the pressure somewhat as both of my guests had travelled a not inconsiderable distance..... Moose pulled a fast-moving partridge out of the sky whilst we walked up a bracken bank on the fell edge, but pheasants seemed few and far between.
However - things perked up in the afternoon, and we all managed to dirty our barrels, with Moose connecting with a woodcock coming over hot n fast, and 243varmint finding himself in the hotseat for the last drive of the day, dropping one bird into the river behind the wood - and pulling down an absolute screamer of a high hen with a fabulous shot to round the day off!
I'll let the pictures do the talking, but it was a genuine pleasure to be able to have these two gents out for the day. Well I say "gents"....
