    Bullet is it not a 6" barreled model 686 rather than the rarer 5" barrel ?
    It's the calibre of the shooter that counts not the calibre of the rifle.

    They were a limited run as was the 8 3/8" and the 3" barrelled revolvers. As you say the common barrel lengths were 2 1/2", 4" and 6". I only ever owned this model and a couple of 586 revolvers in 6".

    Thanks for info,didn't know that.
    I had a model 27 in 6" and knew someone who had a 27 in 5".
    That was Richard Loweth,have you heard of him?.
    His 27 was quite old,had a different side plate and number of screws configuration.

    Yes I've heard of Richard Loweth, that's a blast from the past.

    He wrote some good articles for the Handgunner. One especially good one about the use of speedloaders on different makes of revolver.

    A blast from the past! A very nice quality pistol with a hogue mono grip as well.
