I have been an RCO for many years and know you can buy the booklet from the NRA. To be honest, I wouldn't get bent out of shape if you don't get it before your training. The course I did was very good and delivered by an NRA instructor who issued the RCO handbook booklet. If you have range experience then it shouldn't be a challenge at all and I am guessing you may have been an RCO assistant by now so that's all good experience.

You could do well trying to get a copy of your range orders, understand how to deal with emergencies on the firing line and how a RASP is put together as well as a range brief. The course is both class room and practical with you giving a range brief, controlling live firing on range, using control flags, radios, instructing Butt supervisors, assessing whether or not you needed an assistant etc. etc.

Our instructor was pretty good and gave live shooters sneaky instructions like having a heart attack on line with a live rifle, not obeying 70mil rule, taking rifles out of the bag behind the firing point etc. (all under controlled conditions). You had to have eyes in your ass - not unlike running a shoot for real I guess!!

I am not sure if I still have a copy of the booklet but if you would like an example of a RASP etc, just drop me a PM and I can get a copy to you.

This stuff is very useful we both found it good for when we did our RCO in august. There was a mention of not sending booklets first and not sharing can't remember why though.

All answers are given in the briefing with strong hints that they are answers. my advice would be to take a note book write stuff so it has to go through your brain and asterisks the bits they say are answers. ask questions be engaging don't act like you know everything, the homework isn't as bad as it sounds. Take eyes and ears and your NRA safe shooters card.

Me and "pinguisgod" did get some funny looks for giggling like school girls at "Butt party" "Butt supervisor" and "Butt party leader"

    Great course would highly recomend.
