    6.5x55 or .308

I've been looking for a 6.5x55 for a while, mon a limited budget but nothing to tight and haven't been able to find many rifles for sale.

A friend told me to swap to .308 as more availability I like 6.5 but am edging his way.

What are your thoughts I am now utterly stuck?

    Thanks james

Originally tried both of these calibres - for me the 6.5x55 cycled and felt better.
I was really lucky as just as I started looking for a rifle McLeods of Tain happened to have a secondhand 6.5x55in and for a price I could afford and that's how I got into the Swede brigade.
It's served me well in the time that I've owned it and I have no complaints about it.

Whatever you choose don't be to pressurised by others - choose whatever you feel comfortable with and all the best with whichever one it is.

308 is the better hunting cartridge.

I have both and find either to be fine. At range 308 has an edge but only a small one. If I could only have one it would be the 308

What are you stalking mainly ? I've both and wouldn't swap either saying that the 270 got an outing today .the 6.5 doesn't figure on our counties gunshop shelves an awful lot you may have to try further afield .have you tried bradshaws fotheringay ?

i have both calibres in sako 85 and they are both good all rounders, my main stalking/ longe range foxing rifle is the 6.5. I use 120 and 156 grain ammunition through that

the 6.5 I have one inch high at a hundred and the 308 one inch high 150
just about covers everything, both are cracking calibres

my favourite is the 6.5 over the 308

I am not familiar with the 6.5x55 but have a 6.5 06, its got alot more oooooooossh than the 55 but I think my 308 has the edge poleaxing the deer.the 308 will have way more knockdown power
