I don't understand. Did you shoot a roe with a .223 @375 yrds or a roe with a .243 @600yds? My longest shot was a sika @ 200meters with a .308 off a bipod, uninjured thats long enough for me. But I understand some people specialise in long range, bit more ethical to stick to a quarry where any hit would be fatal though eg crows. (in USA they use prarie dogs).

I think the question should be what is the longest range you would shoot a deer at.

I think this site is called "The Stalking Directory".

stalking - a hunt for game carried on by following it stealthily or waiting in ambush, To go through (an area) in pursuit of prey or quarry.

As far as im concerned the sport is in the stalk, and have also found that alot of people cannot judge range accurately. What exactly would the bullet drop be at 600 yards because I recon it would be a hell of alot.

Well l shot a rabbit the other night with my Webley Vulcan MkIII - Hawke 3-9 x 44 scope (not IR) - no mod either!! whilst lamping just to see if l could do it - l paced it out too - 33yards. Dead chuffed..

I have shot a 240ish yard fox with my .223 last summer, deer wise l haven't had the opportunity to shoot anything over 150yards - but average for me is between 80-140yards on the ground l can shoot.

Depends on what calibre yoru using mate - .22-250 or any calibre with .WINMAG after it wouldn't drop a busting lot over that range. I remember a mate telling me that a .30 cal winmag only drops 1" or so over 300yards depending on bullet and conditions...

.270 130 gr 220 yards at a hind in a blizzard. It went down like a sack of spuds but I certainly wouldn't want to have to that again. I'm with Barry Thom on this one, anyone who doesn't find getting close into any species of deer needs to hand in their rifle.

I will leave the long range stuff to whacking the Taliban where an injury matters not, but the new .338 doesn't leave much room for injury
