Thread: defender steering wheel removing.

    defender steering wheel removing.

    Can any one give me an idea how to remove a defender steering wheel.
    nut is off but it wont shift.

    are there 2 threaded holes ether side of the main spindle, m6 thread if i remember correctly? if so it will need pulling off with a puller.

    Do NOT remove the big nut all the way (black eye) and bump the wheel from below. Use a rubber mallet if you need more force but a clenched fist has always worked for me.

    AS RD says, leave the nut on with a wee gap, and give the steering spindle a firm tap on the end with a plastic/rubber hammer whilst pulling the steering wheel towards you. Just needs a wee shock to free it on the splines.

    if I remember, that's the old 4 spoke wheel. this is a 97 300tdi that is completely molded with no bolt holes.

    Ahh I see, far too new for me. Im an early 90 man late 80s 90s machines.

    I have a 2000 TD5. Centre nut is all that holds it onto the 48 spline centre. Mine slips on and off alright. Just give it a tap from a few angles, it should come.

    thanks for all replies, like I was told, give it a bash from the back and hey ho it came off.
