Thread: Does anyone use neoprene scope covers?

Does anyone use neoprene scope covers?

Hello everyone. I recently lost the bikini covers that came with my Zeiss Duralyt scope, and have also acquired an old 6x43 Nickel with removable mounts that came with covers that don't really fit. So I was thinking that rather than bikini covers, perhaps it would be an idea to buy neoprene covers like this one: SEELAND NEOPRENE RIFLE SCOPE COVERS - 2 SIZES | eBay

I also thought that in the case of the removable scope, this would also protect it when not in use. Does anyone out there use these and have any recommendations or experiences regarding their pros and cons?

    Thanks.

Yes, but just for storage and transportation. Not in the field. Don't stalk with scope covers on. Regards JCS

I guess the only slight negative over flip up covers might be if you're caught out in a down pour.

I guess these are mostly for storage and transportation. As you say, I tend to remove the covers when I'm actually stalking. As often as not this is in the rain, but I've never found it obscured the lenses badly enough to prevent safe use. Maybe I've just not been out in enough rain... OK, so it sounds like they'd do what I need.

I use the Jack Pike neoprene covers, they are slightly slimmer than the one referred to above and definitely cheaper.
I don't have them in place when actually stalking but when sat down or carrying the rifle in the rain I have the cover on one end depending which end is up and likely to be covered by rain, that way as you raise the rifle the cover will fall off.
They are also made with a 'realtree' pattern.

I use them to protect my scopes when in the cabinet and travelling - I get mine from Scopecoat.

Do you happen to have the diameter of the bikini scope covers for your Duralyt? I think I've got some spares knocking around somewhere.

Hello WG! It's the 3-12x50 Duralyt if that helps.

Yes I use similar , not when actually stalking unless it's very wet, but in my pocket and can be slipped on in the event of an unexpected shower, got mine from Bushwear can't remember how much, but less than they are asking for these on the bay.

I have used them in the field, as I don't use flip up covers. I usually use no covers or bikini covers, if I have them.

The Burris bikini covers are like the Zeiss and Swaro, but cheaper, so you might could get one of those as a spare part item for your 6x43 Nickel ( Burris 4.5-14x42 scopes ).

    Not a great deal.

I've found my spares and they have got have inside diameters of approx 40mm on the eyepiece and 53mm on the objective. They are black plastic with yellow transparent inserts.

If they would fit, let me know.
