    Section 1 Shotgun Recommendations

I have got a variation but not sure what to buy. For the few times a year I use it, I'm tempted by an Escort.

All my keeper mates have Bennellis and most rate them but say they're too heavy in the larger capacities.

So, what have you got, how many cartridges does it hold, are you pleased with it, do you use it more or less than you anticipated and what would you get if you were buying now?

    cheers

Depends what your intended use is.
I have a Benelli M2 and Beretta 1301, both are 12 shot using standard 70mm cartridges but I use both for Practical shotgun competitions, I don't have a preference for either, the wife had a Hatstand Escort and it was terrible, very agricultural and was no good for competitions due to its weird loading gate but if using for pigeon then probably ok where speed loading is not needed.

I use a Mossberg 500. It is as light as a sxs but sights like an o/u. It has been utterly reliable if fed 70mm + carts. I use it all the time. When I get round to it, I will lengthen the tang on the lifter and 65mm will feed no problem.

Mine holds 6+1, can be stripped with just a biro to push the pins out, and the ally/synthetic build of all but the mag tube and barrel makes it easy to clean with warm water if salty. I would definitely have another for the 400 I paid for mine new. If I could find one I would have settled happily for an old Slugmaster for PSG.

Benelli M2 with 24 inch barrel and cartridge capacity of 9/10. Wouldnt be without it,was going to get an Escort but the shopkeeper talked me out of it,glad he did......

Do not buy a section one Escort. A three shot one is complete junk too but at least you can sell it on more easily to some mug or trade it in against the Benelli after a month or so of grief and recover 25% of your money.

Slightly off topic but in my case Yes .
All my firearms are bought for a purpose and my multi shot is for rabbit control on agricultural land where the .22/.17hmr are not viable.
ie where/when shooting from the truck.
Sometimes it's too time consuming to walk warren to warren and with a driver I can get more bunnies in a shorter timescale with the semi.
Oh, and it is safer with an 8 shot mag than trying to reload an o/u or sxs

    Back on topic,
I've a Hatsun Escort and am quite happy with the gun- clunky and agricultural I agree but it takes the punishment- and it came with a magazine insert that in a couple of moments temporarily restricts it to 3 shot

The weight of the extra cartridges will be the same no matter what make/model of FAC shotgun you get. There is a reason your keeper mates have Benellis - they are very good and will run for yonks without any attention. I have an M2 myself.

A freind of mine has a 8 shot benelli , hell of a good gun , I have a old franchi hunter 5 shot , Bought it 11 years ago for 200 quid and has had thousands of cartridges of all loads through it and never missed a beat .Its realy the only shotgun i use for vermin. I would probs look at another franchi if mine ever went wrong .
