Hi

i have a photon xt on my cz455. I have originally fitted a picatinny rail onto the dovetail (cant remember where i bouht it) and then used burris rings with the inserts to get the correct adjustments. After using on saturday my scope had moved slightly and after examining today the entire rail is no longer staying on the dovetails. What do other people do to fit a picatinny rail on their CZs?

Mine are the American DIP type fitting the 11mm CZ dovetail. They are anchored in place by small set screws, (about 6) with Allen key heads. There is a small degree of play when fitting, taken up by careful even tightening up of the set screws. I did not use any Loctite product in case I could not free at a later date. The Allen head set screws are very small.

[But there is a huge downside of the detachable rail … it can slip. It’s extremely hard to diagnose erratic flyers from a slipping rail. But, sure enough I’d finally get irritated enough to remove the mount and discover the rail screws had come lose or later that the steel screws had eaten into the softer aluminum rail. That experience helped me develop a hatred for detachable scope rails. It’s just very difficult to keep a smooth rail from slipping on a smooth action while under recoil]. (This is something I've just read online)

I too use one of the DIP rails and its been faultless. Low profile and very secure plus the service from Kinney's Supply in the US was superb.

These rails seem to be increasingly necessary to provide decent eye relief when using bigger scopes with extended occular bells with variable mag./I.R. etc. Shame we have to import good quality ones from the U.S. of A.

Alternatively you can consider one of these but it does add to the height

It is a bit of a shame no one in th uk is making a viable alternative but we are in a global market with the Internet and my rail from the states was cheaper than anything of a similar quality available in the uk and took less than a week to arrive with tracked shipping the whole way.

If you contact john Carr of Doncaster he can make a rail. He specialises in building precision actions for custom match rifles but can also make aluminium/ steel rails as custom jobs. Think he was starting a range of rimfire rails as he was telling me about the differance in angles of the dove tails. Sure he can get you sorted as he supplies a lot of the trade.
