thermal spotter

Pulsar core FXQ50 BW and a set of mounts/clamps to attach it to scope. plus a battery pack. £1400 plus p and p location depending. little use, fantastic condition. no scratches on lenses.

It may be a stupid question, but is it not better for someone like myself who's in the market for a thermal spotter to buy a thermal scope and use that as a spotter when it's not mounted? What are the disadvantages when using an unmounted thermal scope as a spotter apart from the ergonomics...
