‘Middle Ground’ Culling Calibre

Or find a nice old ‘opened up’ Mauser 98, and build a 300H&H for a touch of class. Add in 220g nosler partitions and you have just secured a way to bypass hell, even, even if, you formerly owned a 6.5creed

While bullet type matters for killing all UK deer Calibers from 243 win up do just fine for all Uk deer , its been so a long time in fact you can go down greater than 100 grains now with the new legislation now going down to 80 grain copper. if folk are shooting further than their ability a bigger bullet wont do much to correct the injured, only better placement can fix that issue

funny how the legislation changes to suit an agenda ..............

i thought it was because we are all too happy and have too much money without them?
Must just be you there mate  Deciding on which shower of shite to have in power is not a fun choice...least worst option is not where I want to be when it comes to voting...but lets leave it there so this doesnt become more "political" 👍

Back to topic - 6.5 Creed all the way.... up the Creed party

You’ve got a Creedmoor because that’s what you were conned into and were stupid enough to buy!

They sold you probably the shittiest calibre ever known to man, but I won’t hold that against you. I’ll just call you an idiot

Now grow some hair around your balls and buy a decent calibre

What exactly is so bad about the creedmoor? Don’t say it’s overhyped ect. I want actual details about its performance

 what a crock of shite Lee .... You are starting to sound as ignorant as Timmy

Happy to be called an idiot...doesnt phase me especially coming from a Hillbilly like you 🥰💋

I’m worse than Tim that I will assure you!
 dont think that is true. Surprised you associate with someone who uses a crappy digital scope all the time ...double standards perhaps 💋

If you hate the creed so much ban anyone from using it who shoots with you...that will limit your choices...otherwise get over yourself and keep your creed hating nonsense to yourself ... maybe time for you to give up shooting after all

Nothing it is what it is.

Well it is. There were articles where people claimed it was as ‘good’ as a 300WM

Less drama at the shooters end of the barrel for similar performance to 308, 708, 270 at normal stalking ranges. A cheap way to get to a target at a 1000. All the ballistics nonsense boils down to this.

My Sika don’t seem to like it and they are armour plated remember.

Same results as my 308 but a bit less recoil.

More pooder than the x47 so better performance is possible. Factory ammo is anemic.

Hating it is just as stoopid as raving about it as a new 300WM. If you look at the numbers it is an extremely popular calibre

No medium sized calibre is going to drop everything to shot (ever actually) at 400m.

243 ideal roe round and perfect for fallow, only time you might need something more is for huge fallow bucks chest shot near cover when a bigger slower bullet can be useful, the 243 will make them drop albeit might have the odd one run a few dozen yards- if in a park I don’t see an issue.

Well it is. There were articles where people claimed it was as ‘good’ as a 300WM

on paper it was awful close to 300wm original loadings at long range thanks to the slippery bullets but they are very different animals and all the latest bullet tech can be applied to the 300wm now and that moves the goal posts again

Hi All,

I’m at a slight quandary considering which calibre to rebarrel my 6.5X47L rifle which I’ve been primarily using for park culling Fallow, and stalking wild Roe, as it’s done a good few rounds now.

I have been pretty underwhelmed with the results the 6.5 has delivered compared to my other rifles. Switching from 100 grain Barnes TTSX to 114 Grain Yew Tree TLR helped, particularly on roe, but I am still seeing Fallow chest shots consistently run at all ranges, albeit only 10-15M with a very good blood trail.

For other rifles, I use a .308 (short range woodland, max 250M) and a .300 WSM (further range open ground) and would like something that hits hard to reduce the runners seen, and will be punchy enough for medium range (0-400M, with appropriate performance to cope to 500-600M should dispatch require.)

Factory ammunition would be ideal, although I primarily homeload, so not imperative. It would be a 22-24” barrel.

Currently considering: 7-08, another .308, .270, 284 Win or another.

I had similar requirements, and went 7mm-08. Admittedly I've gone for a very different platform, but I do think a 7mm is a good middle ground when we start wanting good BC without lobbing anything too heavy at roe.

I'd have considered a 280ai, and my 7mm-08 may become that one day. However 7mm-08 was what came up, and I'm happy it did. I think it'll do me well.

7mm08..
No bolt / mag modification required to your rifle! Just a new barrel.

162gr ELD, or If you're set on using copper get it 1in8" then you you could go to 168gr Barnes LRX that will flatten anything you point it at!

It'll probably also have you leaving the 308 in the cabinet!
