A bit of a one off this one, it gets a blade very similar to 200mm (8") that I generally use but that is married to a straighter, more Eastern-style, Wa shaped handle, the wa-handle is the prominent handle design for Japanese kitchen knives, they generally feature a hexagonal or oval shape in cross section.
I was planning on leaving this one quite square, or rectangular actually, by not taking the corners off too much, but when I arrived at that shape I didn't like it, not uncomfortable, it just didn't sit right in the hand.
I didn't want to go oval though so I compromised, I shaped the top of that handle to an oval but still left the underside quite squareish, it works very nicely, the oval section seating very comfortably in the palm of your hand with your fingers indexing nicely around the more square underside.
2mm SF100 steel.
Triple dyed and stabilised, book-matched Box Elder scales.
It was commissioned as a gift, the gent receiving is is a huge fan of Metallica
