Once we get Christmas over a lot of people's thoughts turn to their summer holidays and if you fancy a holiday in the Hebrides then be sure to take a look at the Dollag's Cottage web site. The cottage sleeps 6 in a double and two twin rooms and is situated on a working croft on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis:

As is usually the case many weeks for the 2017 season are already booked but, for some reason, August has always been slow to fill up and is normally not fully booked until we get into the New Year so there are still some summer weeks available. Lewis can also make a nice autumn break.

For those interested in sport then the brown trout, sea trout and salmon fishing is legendary and there is also some fantastic shotgun sport and stalking available in the area. Unfortunately as the cottage is on a working croft dogs or other pets are not allowed.

Anyhow, here are a few photos just to brighten this post up, some were taken in the last few weeks as I was walking a little bit and also went to watch the spawning salmon:

Out for a walk overlooking the cottage just over a week ago:

Walking the moor in November looking for spawning salmon and admiring the colours:

September salmon fishing:

Wandering out to some trout lochs, most of the trout fishing is remote, free and you are unlikely to meet anyone in many years of wandering the moor. The first photo was taken in September and the second right at the end of the trout season in October:

Even the fishing you can drive to is quite remote - on this day it was an hour and a half out this track and then another hour of walking to the sea trout loch:

Winter hind stalking, and stag stalking taken from nearly the same spot:

October salmon fishing:
