.22lr Long barrel pistol

Probably a bit off topic for some on here, but currently looking for a long barrel pistol like the looks of the 1911, just wondering if anyone has any experience with the gsg or the walther? Pros and cons for each?

I have a GSG 1911 with the M9 accurizing kit, series 80 delete and spring kit - a great pistol for plinking as standard but with all the aftermarket bits it’s a tack driver, not even bad in my fumbling hands.

I use an RM100 red dot sight with mine.

The benefit over the Walther is the availability of parts.

Seems the GSG’s are very popular and I can see why, the build quality is very good and they seem to function most ammunition.

Hope this helps,
Regards,

I had an issue with mine. The recoil spring guide broke after 3 mags. I had a replacement in 4 days from the distributor. I wrote to GSG expressing my pleasure with the 1911, telling them I used it for informal competition at our gunclub. I was surprised to receive a hat with the GSG logo and a nice letter in the mail a couple of weeks later. I only use "high" velocity ammo in mine and have not shot it suppressed, but it is a great gun. You seldom see one 2nd hand here which is always telling of their popularity.
Another gun that I bought at about the same time, tho not very popular (except to those who own them) is the ISSC Mk22 "SKAR" clone. ~Muir

Think I'm sold on the gsg, shot one a few times quite liked it was just a guy down the club said the walther was miles better but never had chance to have a go with one
I’m not sure I would agree with the Walther being better - I’ve shot those, buckmarks, and a friend bought a Grand Power K22, the thing is - even with adding the M9 engineering kit - it’s still cheaper than the others, and a 1911 just feels nice in the hand, and as said before - the aftermarket parts are endless which isn’t the case for the firefly, Walther etc.

The Walther is more than double the price, KMR’s are about 4x the price and Volquartson are about 4-6x the price…but not that far out on accuracy…

Try and get a buckmark magazine part in the U.K.!

Just the hard decision of deciding on the colour now 🤣🤣, who knew it would be so hard

I found the GSG sig copy to be alot nicer to handle than the 1911. I have the 1911 and it's a real stretch to operate one handed where as the sig controls are all within easy reach of my thumb. I dare say the LBP glocks will also be alot nicer to use to. It wouldn't be a bad idea to go and have a look at them in the flesh before buying.

mine is a run of the mill GSG1911 LBP it groups as well at 50m as my SIG P210 does, so that puts the blame fully on me! all I have done with it is replace the original barrel block bolt with a tighter fitting one from the web (head is lightly larger so interference fit and doesnt work loose like the original) I use minimags through it and have no problems with missfires/FTF/FTE etc,

Tried the gsg 1911, it was fun but little more than a range toy. Not really accurate past 25 yards and you can only shoot them at a HOAR, unless you're an RFD.

I remember the sig fitting my small hands better.

I have a GSG.
If buying used, check that it has both of the screws/pins locking the barrel block into the frame.
Mine was missing one of these and there is a lot of play in the barrel. Enough to give a foot of difference in point of impact at 20yds !
I really need to make a pin and fix it.
And be careful not to lose it when you are stripping.

Mine also has a loose barrel, which unscrews itself after a few shots. But that is due to it having been butchered somewhere in it's past.
But it was cheap, and it still good fun.

The issue with borrowing these guns at clubs is due to the wording of the section 15(1) exemption in the FA act.
When pistols were banned in 98, it was reworded to include just rifles and muzzle loading pistols. As that was all they they thought we has left. LBP and sect 1 shotguns they hadn't accounted for.

There were some changes that went through parliament a few years ago. To fix the expanding ammo issue, fix sect 15(1) and clarify the wording on estate rifle (and one other issue, which I forget...) Only the expanding ammo issue got onto the statute books. The rest got forgotten about.

I was under the impression that it’s quite illegal for anyone apart from the license holder to use a pistol that belongs/registered to another FAC holder .
I know we were not allowed to have LBR as a club gun for this very reason .
Unless the person (not the registered owner) also has a slot for an LBR on his ticket. It is crazy, I couldn't let you shoot my LBR, which is 2 foot long and not easy to conceal, unless you also had a slot for one but anyone can shoot my black powder revolver!!!

Having a slot on your ticket has nothing to do with it, that’s a common misconception. At a club you can shoot someone else’s firearm of a type the club is approved by the home office for.

The home office do not approve clubs for LBP/LBR so no one can borrow either, the same applies to section 1 shotguns.
