22WMR to replace 22LR/17HMR??

Afternoon,
I have been pondering a change in my gun cabinet by obtaining a 22wmr as a replacement for my 22LR/17hmr or both!

Having not shot an 22wmr I can’t comment on its performance, but am looking at the T2/Guncraft AR15 stylee ones, so I was interested to see what the collective on hear think.

Do I stick or twist? And if I twist which do I ditch? 22?17? Or both?

FYI, my 22 is a modified Lantac Sig Sauer 522 and the 17 is a bog standard CZ452.

Thx
I had a semi auto in wmr also have a17hmr, with the wmr not matter what make of round I put through it was such a dirty gun had to keep the mags clean luckily I had 3 mags,in comparison I preferred my 17hmr only had a couple of cases with marks on,so to overcome any problem, so far touch wood no problem , I keep the barrel lightly oiled and use various round manf.

I’d get a .22 hornet over a .22 mag. The .22 mag doesn’t offer that much more real world range over the .22LR but the hornet is awesome out to 200y. It gets a bit loopy after 200y but with a 100y zero it only drops 1-1.5” at 200

I wouldn’t count the .243 as a substitute for the hornet either - .243 is 2000ft/lb and a 100gn bullet whereas the hornet is less than half that, one quarter the powder and 30-50gn bullets. It’s a superb varmint cartridge and frankly if it was legal it would be a superb muntjac/CWD cartridge as well. If it’ll kill a fox it’ll kill a small deer like that dead easy 👍🏻
Not so sure about that - from memory (dangerous) at 100yds the 22 magnum has about the same energy as the wee 22lr has at the muzzle.

The 22WMR can be every bot as accurate as the HMR provided you find the right ammo. Chambers are not as standardized as HMR and the ammo is not made by one maker, as is HMR. So if you are interested in WMR, and I am a huge fan, make sure you have a selection of ammo available. If your shop carries one kind, you could be screwed if your rifle doesn't like it.

I have about 7 WMR's. Do not get a cleaning fetish with WMR. You will never get the best accuracy. My CZ 452 is a gem as is my Savage SSVL. Both rifles took 200 rounds to achieve their top accuracy. I doubt I've ever cleaned the barrels.
My BRNO 611? Loves everything but CCI MAxi MAg the most. ~Muir
Dear Muir,
Would you kindly take a single photo when you have a moment to spare of all your gun collection and post it please, just to make us envious!
Atb Diddley.

It would need to be and outdoor picture and it's winter here. Maybe in the spring. ~Muir

That doesn't quite add up to me.
My 222's loaded hot were that kind of trajectory but my hornets were -4"-6"@200yds 🤔

Having never used a .22wmr, but have a .22lr and .17hmr in CZ452. How do they compare against each other in noise level in a moderated rifle?
Are they too noisy to be used around livestock, rabbitting around the yard gone midnight--shooting into the surrounding fields--not ratting at 20 yards😀?

I'd say WMR moderated is a tiny bit louder but nothing in it.
I used mine everywhere, no body complained.
I also shot it unmoderated for a while too.

I was shooting the HMR yesterday 200yds from a farm. The son was in the yard. Later I asked if he heard the shooting, said he heard nothing.

Indeed so. My old CZ 22 magnum was very quiet with the moddie on - sadly my current one isn’t just so quiet - but what it lacks in quietness it more than makes up for in damned good looks! The ten back-up shots can be handy on occasion too and call me old fashioned but just the sound of it being cycled is great.
Besides, occasionally who doesn‘t want to be John Wayne, pilgrim?

Shooting both side by side and using Hornady vmax in both no real difference between them. Never going to silence the crack but the rabbits don't seem bothered by it. As @Smellydog alludes to the noise is always there when you're the one doing the shooting, often never an issue for those not beside/near you

Can you guys in the UK tell me the nuts and bolts of the forthcoming lead ban. Is it for everything including 22lr and air rifles etc?

Last time I looked out the window there was no “ban”, certainly much talk of it - especially by alarmists and Supermarkets/game dealers some of whom “prefer/insist” on nil lead shot/bullet. Only formal “ban“ I am aware of refers to lead shot over wetlands cos ingestion kills birds (allegedly).
Others may know different….
