Hi everyone I’ve been shooting this bore for a very long time and of course I’m starting to find certain game shoots are now non toxic only I also reload for this bore as well my question is that all the talk of shot size and the amount of pellets but no one is talking about non toxic wads most of the reloading data is for plastic I know this is being discussed on here a lot but has anyone got any information on fibre wads for steel in a twenty eight bore because I think myself what’s the point of none toxic shot but a plastic wad

99.9% certain you will not get fibre wads for steel shot or a biodegradable plastic wad in a 28gauge your only viable option at this time is using fibre wads with bismuth shot. Sit down before you look at the price of the cartridges.
Reloading possibly a cheap way to go with bismuth.

All the cartridge makers are developing non toxic alternatives. 12 and 20 bores now have lots of options. They are now turning their attention to 16 and 28.

Don’t know about 28, but with the 16 there are now quite a few options in steel whereas a year ago there were none.

I would do anything drastic like selling the 28 bore. You may have to wait a little bit, but there will be plenty of options.

Given the 12 then 20 are by far the largest market, manufacturers get the quickest return on investment in developing new technologies. They can apply the lessons to the superior 16 and 28.

28 is hard enough to get as it is . Best shot by far performance wise in this gun regards range and killing is TTSX but std steel I would go number 5 steel as the smallest or Bismuth . Regards good wads that protect your barrel from steel and tungsten, hold good patterns and control even pressures its the tougher plastic ones designed for none toxic . Just make the effort to pick them up again, rarely does a wad not lie within 50 yards or less of your position and my auto can chuck and ejected case half that distance !

Can confirm this had a heart attack this week when I bought a single box of Hull for £37.

Just cartridges list just 4 loads in 28gauge game cartridges in non toxic shot all are Bismuth.

They list just 5 loads in 16ga game cartridges 4 are Bismuth and 1 is steel shot with a non biodegradable plastic wad.

Anybody who thinks in 28gauge that steel shot is going to replace lead is very optimistic.

Do you need a special cup type wad for tungsten matrix as I have a jar of that as well also if the shoot where you shoot doesn’t mind what you use as you take home what you shoot on a average day say 10 to 20 birds which I can easily breast or distribute to friends and so we all need to do this and let the super markets suffer a own goal

no expert on TSS but i think they use steel plastic wads but add a mylar film wrap inside the cup to give extra protection. Also been told they cut .410 cases down to fit inside the 28gauge plastic wad as TSS shot being so much heavier than lead is used mainly in just 2.0mm diameter so the cut .410 case reduces the wad shot volume down.
