Hi all

What experience (if any) have you all got with reloading ‘evil Roy’s’ .300 weatherby?

Particularly in the lighter loads 125grn -155grn

Thanks in advancev

I used one for a few years , but I didn't use anything lighter than 180 gr bullets in it . To be honest , I predominantly shot 200 gr Nosler partitions through it . I'd be curious as to how a Barnes 150 gr TTSX , or similiar bullet , would perform in one . Sorry , no help , but I'll keep an eye on others responces .

Hi
Thanks for your reply, most of the factory ammo you buy comes as 180grn which is understandable considering the calibre and intended use.

Did you reload the 200grn?

Thanks

i have a 300RUM , no real advantage to full power light bullet loads to be honest , it's not what 300 magnums are for really

Just wondered how fast a light bullet in that situation would be rotating at? Might be getting to awkward speeds?

David.

I understand that the .300 magnums were designed as such,

It was more curiosity about the lighter loads for fallow, making it similar to a .30-06 as I have seen people write in the past
Thanks

ah , i get where you are coming from now

i would get an old lyman reloading manual they tended to have unusual loads like that

Can’t offer anything useful

Can’t help but think that everyone knows where they were when …

Kennedy was shot
Twin towers

And

The first time they pulled the trigger on a weatherby 😳

I have one of those (old ish) if I remember I’ll look later.

I’m of a similar quandary in that I’ve just put in for a 300 PRC it will likely be a 1/9 Bergara, so deciding what bullet to use for deer.
Probably copper around 180 grain.

Yes , I did reload the 200 grn Noslers . I used it for longer range Moose and Elk , something it does very well , along with other similiar cartridges .

I have a 300 wby mag, built on a sako 75 action with a 31” barrel, I run 175grain TMK over N165 @3360 FPS.

I can’t comment on running lighter bullets as never tried, it has been run on 208 grain A-max but was fair savage and was sucking guts through the diaphragm of chest shot highland reds.

People keep saying about the excessive recoil on the weatherby, thankfully I don’t seem to be feeling it….. the benefits of being a lump 🤣

The sucking of guts is my concern if it gets used on fallow without a slightly steadier bullet, (obviously not the first choice of calibre for fallow)

I run a 175grain tmk and no longer have the issue, even on roe what I’ve shot a lot of with it, was only with the 208 it was sucking the gut.
