300 win mag lighter moderator

Any 300 win mag users recommend a lightweight moderator?

Currently got and use an ASE SL7i, which is great but 602 grams on the end of a long barrel effects the balance.

Tried all sorts of rifle slings including back pack twin sling, but with the mod the rifle wants to keep pivoting.

For my Scotland hill stalk trips, something light would be better or maybe I need to go for a muzzle brake & ear defenders.

I will keep and use the ASE for load development, lowland stalking etc.

Lots of new kit out all the time and had a search about, but any recommendations welcome.

Thanks

I had the identical problem. The SL7 is very good with noise reduction, but boy is it heavy hanging off a 300wm barrel.

I went for the DPT magnum over barrel, with a stainless baffle, and it transformed the rifle.

I use a Hausken JD 224 on my 300wm. Works ok. Think they are a around 310grams.

I am using a dpt magnum over barrel, it is great so far. Light and does a very good job of sound and recoil management.

Literally dozens of options
what is your goal?
recoil?
noise?

dpt, Freyr&Devik, wildcat Evo, MAE, hausken, Stalon, Atec hertz,

if you can wait a couple of days we are processing the data on a moderator test carried out at the weekend.

When I go my Sauer 404 in 300 win mag I did an amount of research as in order of priority I wanted

1 lightweight
2 decent sound DB reduction performance
3 not too long in terms of overall additional barrel lenght

in the end I chose a Sauer Titanium Pro, they tick all of the above. I took it to Africa and the PM was very impressed and they get to hear a lot of rifles including Win Mags. The only downside is that they do heat up very quickly but then all the ultra light mods do so after 3 rounds zeroing you need to leave it a while, not an issue when hunting. They are not cheap but if you want to save some money don’t buy them directly from Sauer but from someone like Edinburgh Rifles who are an agent

If you choose a DPT over-barrel model, it's possible to use more baffles than the end can model.

Thanks for all the recommendations and comments. Look forward to the mod test results to help me decide, will that be published on SD or the Edinburgh Rifles site?

Thanks for all the ideas and comments. Any Lawrence precision Titan owners out there on their 300WM?

Any comments welcome by return or message if you prefer. Thanks

i use a std 4 baffle dpt 30 cal on my 300 wsm & 7x57 end of barrel works fine shot hundreds of rounds stalking not target not quietest but still saves you ears and unshot deer have similar reaction to alot heavier over barrel makes used in the past

I use a Lawrence Precision Eclipse on my 7mm Rem Mag so not too dissimilar. It is amazingly quiet considering the noise the magnums make. I think it is about the same as my 22/250 with reflex mod and much quieter than my 308 with tier one spartan mod the Lawrence Precision Weighs 550g so not ultra lightweight but very manageable for the hill. There is a YouTube video on the LP mods that is worth looking at
