6.5 06

Two or three years ago I had a 6.5-06 .

It was built on a 98 Mauser action with a Shilen #3 carbon steel 1-9 barrel and finished at 24" . Gun was stocked in a very nice old Parker Hale stock .

With the Hornady 129 SST and 51 grains of H4831 it would literally drive tacks at 100 yards . That season I took it out a few times after deer . I shot the rifle 4 times in the field and had 4 deer .

Gun was actually kinda boring because it shot well with whatever I tried in it .

So like the proverbial DUMBASS I sold it . That rifles one of the few I wish I had beck !

So good luck with yours and I hope it does as well for you as the one I had did for me !

Sounds nice!
forgive the stupid question, but what's the difference between 6.5-06 and 25-06? Is it ammo availability or is there a benefit of one over the other for another reason?

My 6.5 is built on t3 action,26 inch hammer forged deep fluted barrel,1 in 8 twist, got to save up for a new stock, my 25 06 shot into 2 inches at 500yds with the crappy ugly tikka varmint stock,6.5 bullets, no factory ammo available that i am aware of, wouldnt use it anyway, the acid test for it will be at 1000yds with 142gr smks or alike.

Bullet diameter. It's not a commercial cartridge. Six-point five bullets are ballistically better topping out in weight at 160 grains.~Muir

Thanks for that

No prob. When the 6.5-06 came out people were not really on board with the 6.5 bullet diameter here in the US, and bullet selection was pretty bad. The main bullet you found when you looked was the Hornady 160 grain Round Nose. If the bullet diameter had been more popular, it might have become a commercial cartridge like the 280 Remington. Hornady thought it popular enough that for years their die 6.5-06 die sets were listed as a "Standard Caliber" die set and not in the "Specialty" listings.~Muir
