6.5 x 55 comparison

I see that, but to me it's like someone saying, "I'm not really interested in women. Just find me one that will cooks well, will keep my house clean and not give me any bother, and I'll marry her." ~Muir

Not if I found her first.

In my dreams.

I've seen lots of different rifles in use, as a RCO at my local Shooting Club. I've been very impressed with Howa from the point of price, accuracy and looks - the latter being the least important. I personally use a Ruger in 25-06 but that is my decision and I'm not about to bore you with the virtues of this calibre. Best advice is try as many as you can before you decide, don't go for anything too shiny and "blingy" and buy a good scope - if anything this is where the best investment is.

6.5x55 is a good round to start with. Rifle wise it's down to your taste in rifles. Sauer and sako are good rifles. What is key is havering good optics ontop of them. My personnel preference would be to go with sako. I've never had any trouble with mines and nether have my friends who have them. The optiloc mounting system works. Mag system is good plus useful feature of being able to extract or chamber a round with the Saftey still engaged.

I kind of forgot about this thread and have just read some of the latter comments. In my defence I have shot a lot with my 6.5 x 55. I can honestly say that I have never missed with it and never failed to put an animal down with a single shot. Why? I enjoy the stalk. I enjoy getting so close that I can't miss. I still have no interest in rifles save for my own which I maintain carefully but you won't catch me self loading or amassing a collection any time soon. I just don't care about the kit so long as it does the job.
