Look for Barnes TSX or Lutz Moeller (guy from Germany ) who make solids that work, not sure on 6mm weights, I use them in 260 and 284 calibre's.

I dont use anything else for deer

I have been looking but the heviest I have come up with are 90gr Nosler E-Tip.
The .243 set up I have is a lot lighter that my 30-06 Tikka so prefer to use that when I can.
Makes live a bit easier when you have a bad back.

Hi Macky . . . I would maybe ask the FC Manager to clarify . . . I know it was on the table up her for a while but it certainly isnt in force yet . . . not to say however your not included in a trial area ect.
As been said, you will struggle with 100 grain bullets in .243

Might be easier to find a 308 or 270 for that ground. I think Barnes only go up to 85grain in 6mm. Your 243 could probably be rebarreled to 308 if you didn't want to change rifle

I have 2 FC leases & the FC manager I deal with is not for it but it might still happen.
The ranger I was with a few weeks ago said that is all that they are using now & have been for the past year or so.

Lookes like I will have to try some in the 30-06 instead.
My .243 with handle 100gr even though it is 1 -10 twist so lookes like I will have to stick to them insted.

A 100 grain jacketed bullet will not be any longer than a lighter Barnes X . Penetration of a 80/85 grain Barnes X will be far superior to a traditional jacketed 100 gr bullet.
Brass or Copper is lighter than lead. Nothing to do about that.

I suspect the problem lies within the law rather than any practical problem in that when stalking deer other than roe in Scotland requires a bullet of minimum weight 100grains and velocity over 2450 fps and a muzzle energy over 1750ftlbs. This means that 243 will be inadequate for reds if copper becomes mandatory. Sad but true!

I have just been offered a culling contract by a woodland agency for purely roe. One of the conditions is that I use only solid copper bullets. I'm struggling to work out how I comply currently. I would normally use a 6mm PPC or 6mm 284 for small woodlands (450 acres) like this. I was told they had been using copper bullets successfully in Scotland on reds, sika and roe for the last eighteen months. Looks like its going to be a thing of the future, largely based on environmental issues as to lead pollution I believe. FC are also trialing currently I'm told.

fixed that for you....

As its roe you should have a problem
general consensus is that you use a slightly lighter copper bullet (compared to what you would normally use) and drive it slightly faster
I shouldn't think a 6x284 will have any problem dropping roe with any bullet size!
Barnes do a 85gr TTSX

getting hold of them in Northumberland might be your bigger challenge

GS Custom Bullets - Designed in South Africa - Proven on the toughest game on the planet.
I don't have info on prices or availability but the bullets have a good reputation. The folks at GS are very helpful and it may be worth emailing them for advice.
There is a GS Custom agent in the Netherlands AFAIR.

With a 10" twist you may be limited to bullets about 0.9" / 22mm long for best stability. What that translates into weight -wise I don't know.

GS Custom are a waste of time, no stock and even loacal dealers do not have any on shelves. They quote 12 weeks and are bloody expensive.
Barnes etc will not make quite the same dent in the pocket. Lutz charges the earth too - there was a falling out between Lutz and GS.

Go for it with the 30-06 & load some Barnes 130 or 150 grain TTSX in it - Long jump to lands & drive them fast. = VERY DEAD DEER QUICK!- any species any size anywhere in UK. No worries about legal issues, & because they hold together they will go straight through most beasts.
The problem is even these bullets are difficult to find - I was recently told by a dealer (very well respected round here) that since Remington bought Barnes he is having real supply problems with them.
My view is - If I want to shoot premium grade bullets & there is likely to be some sort of lead free requirement applied to leases, the more lead free we buy now the more pressure will be put on the supply chain & we may (hopefully) get better service -- I'm not holding my breath though!
If we don't set the market precedence we may be left without product even worse than is now the case.

Ian

FC leases are factory ammo only which further complicates the issue. What about the Lapua naturalis, I think that is available in 243 with a 90g bullet
